Handley Page Victor K.2 (“Maid Marian”)

Aerial refueling tanker By: Handley Page Origin: United Kingdom First Flight: 1952

About This Aircraft

The Handley Page Victor was the third and final of the V-bombers, Britain's strategic nuclear deterrent during the Cold War. This aircraft, XH672, known as "Maid Marian," is a K.2 aerial refuelling tanker variant. It began life as a B.2 bomber before being converted in the 1970s. With its futuristic crescent-shaped wings and towering T-tail, the Victor was the most technologically advanced of the V-bombers. "Maid Marian" served with No. 55 Squadron at RAF Marham and played a vital role in extending the range of other aircraft. Most famously, Victor tankers were crucial to the success of the "Black Buck" raids during the Falklands War, refuelling Vulcan bombers on their long journey to the South Atlantic. "Maid Marian" also saw service during the 1991 Gulf War.
