Light Utility Aircraft By: Fairchild Origin: United States First Flight: 1932

About This Aircraft

The Fairchild Argus II is the Royal Air Force designation for the American Fairchild UC-61A Forwarder, a light utility and transport aircraft. This example, formerly RAF serial FS628, now flies under the civil registration G-AIZE. Acquired by the RAF during WWII through Lend-Lease, the Argus served as a reliable communications and liaison aircraft. It features a high-wing monoplane design and is powered by a six-cylinder Ranger L-440 engine. The cabin can accommodate a pilot and three passengers. After its military service, this aircraft was transferred to the civil register, where it continued to provide sterling service, representing an important piece of Anglo-American wartime cooperation.
